The Little Red Car

When I was a real estate intern just starting out in 1986, the instructor asked our group of 20 hopeful Realtors® what we wanted to accomplish during our first year in real estate.
I chirped: "I want to buy a red Mercedes 450SL!"
"Oh," he remarked, "I think that's a little ambitious."
"Oh?" I said, crestfallen.
But, being the obedient good girl who always respected those in authority - (after all, they must know more than I do) - after one little sigh of resignation, I immediately lowered my expectations.
For years, I operated under that low ceiling of mediocrity. Even though I was good at what I did, I never felt I deserved the outer trappings of success.
But I never gave up loving the sleek, racy silhouette of that car...to me, the most beautiful classic ever designed. As I got older, I tempered my initial desire for a red one with more conservative colors like taupe, black, white...less flashy - more dignified.
Eventually I came to realize that I am responsible for my OWN ceiling - it has nothing to do with what somebody else thinks is right or enough for me.
I also knew if I ever found the perfect car, it would come with a sense of history - from someone who had loved and pampered it, cared for it, changed its oil and kept it polished and pretty.
Well, I just found it. It's everything I always wanted. I bought it - and it's RED!
Don't let go of your dreams - they're waiting for you until you're ready to claim them!
